On Breakups, Wintering, and Returning to My First Love.

Moving through the dark nights of the soul, tapping into our body’s wisdom, and an invitation to join me this winter.

The biggest heartbreak and the most painful breakup I have ever known, was when I retired from my former career in dance. At the time, that ending completely wrecked me. Yet, flashing forward 23 years later, I’ve come to find that it was definitely not the end of my story.

Moving through that seeming darkness ultimately led me to connect with a deep sense of strength and resilience. I don’t think I’d ever have discovered the power within me if I hadn’t gone through that trial.

As time has passed, I’m deeply grateful to say that the grace of life has brought me full circle, right back to my first love: dance. But it’s returned in a completely different way.

Life has brought me back to the improvisational training of my professional days and introduced me to various conscious dance practices – especially Movement Medicine,a practice I have deeply fallen in love with. It’s allowed me to weave my background in authentic movement, somatic healing, myofascial unwinding, and improvisation into the group-centered spaces I hold to this day.

In my former dance career, I was obsessed with the perfection of movement – how it looked and ensuring it fit a choreographer’s standards. What I’ve found today is a deep reconnection with the spirit of why I needed to dance when I was a mere three-year-old falling in love with the art form. Through the intense demands of professional training, I had lost that initial love. Today, I’m entirely connected to how the movement feels and how dance has the ability to heal, rather than how it looks.

To celebrate this, I’m grateful to share these recent images from a photo shoot with a photographer I’ve had the pleasure of working with for the past 10 years Rose Yuen at Rose Boutique Photography. Rose perfectly captured the spirit I feel when I move, and the plethora of emotions it unlocks.

I share this not just to tell my own story, but because this breakup was one of the many trials, tribulations, and “dark nights of the soul” in my life. Because I’ve faced these winters myself, I’ve developed the capacity to hold a deeply supportive space for you when you face yours.

This is exactly why I feel called to facilitate group spaces, retreats, and specifically, the upcoming Wintering / A Retreat for Writers & Creatives. When we face challenging seasons, being in a supportive space allows us to tap into our body’s inner wisdom, heal in community, and connect with the natural world to guide us through.

While my professional training is essential for holding this space, it’s the deep personal work I’ve done myself that allows me to stand right by your side through your journey.

(Please note: Some trials require specialized therapeutic care, such as psychotherapy or medical intervention, which falls outside my scope. If I feel another route would support you better, I’ll always tell you honestly.)

I’ve had a number of people inquire about the upcoming Wintering / A Retreat for Writers & Creatives, wondering if it’s the right fit for them. It’s so important that you feel confident when signing up for an experience like this. To support you, I’m offering complimentary, 20-minute clarity calls for anyone interested in the retreat who wants to ensure it aligns with where they’re at.

You can visit the Wintering / A Retreat for Writers & Creatives page here to learn more, or use the button below to schedule your complimentary call with me.

In the meantime, please know that if you’re currently facing a winter in your life, you’re not alone. Whether I’m your guide for this chapter or there is a better fit for you elsewhere, there is a community of us ready to support you.

Until next time, be well and take good care of you.
